Brecken Health Albany is proud to introduce our dedicated Sleep Clinic, a new service aimed at identifying and managing sleep issues like insomnia and sleep apnoea, helping you reclaim restful nights and healthier days.

What is the Sleep Clinic?

Our Sleep Clinic has been designed to support adults who are experiencing sleep disturbances, especially acute or chronic insomnia. Run by experienced GPs with a special interest in sleep health, the clinic offers a structured, evidence-based approach to diagnosing and treating sleep concerns, without jumping straight to medication.

Appointments are held weekly or fortnightly, with each consult lasting up to 30 minutes in a face-to-face format, allowing for a thorough and personalised approach.

What to Expect from the Sleep Clinic- Brecken Health Albany

Our approach goes beyond simply asking “how did you sleep?”, we look at the full picture of your sleep health to find long-term solutions.

Your First Visit

  • In-depth assessment of your sleep history and overall health
  • Exploration of any underlying causes (such as sleep apnoea, restless leg syndrome, anxiety or depression)
  • Introduction of a 2-week sleep diary
  • Basic sleep hygiene education

Your Second Visit

  • Review and discussion of your sleep diary
  • Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): including stimulus control, sleep restriction, and relaxation techniques
  • Resources such as handouts or app recommendations to support your sleep journey

Follow-Up Appointments

  • Refining your sleep plan and CBT strategies
  • Guidance on gradually reducing reliance on sleeping medications
  • Ongoing support and motivational tools to help you maintain better sleep habits

What tools will be used?

We use a combination of validated tools and clinical insight to understand your sleep patterns and issues, such as:

  • Insomnia Severity Index (ISI)
  • Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)
  • Epworth Sleepiness Scale
  • Depression & Anxiety screening tools (e.g. K10, DASS-21)
  • STOP-BANG / OSA50 for sleep apnoea screening

Where necessary, we also offer referrals for sleep studies, mental health support, or specialist care.
