Mental health is an important part of your overall wellbeing. Whether you’re experiencing stress, anxiety, low mood, burnout, sleep difficulties, grief, trauma, or simply not feeling like yourself, our team is here to support you.

At Brecken Health Albany, our GPs provide compassionate, evidence-based mental health care tailored to your individual needs. We understand that reaching out for help can feel difficult, and we aim to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment.

How We Can Help

Our doctors can assist with a wide range of mental health concerns, including:
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression and low mood
  • Stress and burnout
  • Sleep difficulties and insomnia
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Work-related stress
  • Adjustment difficulties
  • Mental health concerns in children and adolescents

Support may include counselling and coping strategies, medication management where appropriate, referrals to psychologists or psychiatrists, and ongoing GP care.

Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTPs)

If you are eligible, your GP may prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This allows you to access Medicare rebates for appointments with a psychologist, social worker, or occupational therapist specialising in mental health.

Your GP will discuss your concerns with you, complete an assessment, and work together with you to create a personalised care plan.

Regular review appointments are important to monitor your progress and ensure you are receiving the right support.

Referrals & Ongoing Care

We work closely with local allied health providers and specialist services to help connect patients with appropriate support.

Your GP can also assist with:

  • Referrals to psychologists and psychiatrists
  • Medication reviews
  • Mental health care reviews
  • Sleep and lifestyle support
  • Coordination of care for more complex mental health needs
